Seeking Developer Talent
Cominded is a Web development business based in London. Tech wise we totally love Ruby on Rails.
What’s the deal?
Cominded is at heart a place for bright people to earn and learn. We want to hear from talented web developers with who naturally think OO (no spaghetti here unless we’re eating it). We want to know what you’ve been exposed to and what you have made of the opportunity.
We provide ample opportunities to keep learning, and be recognised and rewarded for achievement. And we actually live this way rather than just write about it :)
We are gathering pace and now need to grow our development team asap (but no compromise on quality!). We are based in London (Soho) with an option for you to spend 2 or 3 days per week working from home. The openings are full time with a great salary. Here’s the guys you would be working with:
Paul (founder) – “I’m excited about Cominded. I have lots of knowledge on how to develop large Word of Mouth/Viral websites. Happy to share all of my knowledge/experience with you.”
Gary – “I joined as the first developer. With 10 years of enterprise java development behind me the switch to ruby on rails was easy and liberating.”
Neill – “I joined recently as a developer. I am a pragmatist and fan of automation and find myself among like minds.”
Paul – “I joined Cominded in 2007. Working at the coal face of a startup was a new experience for me – it’s a compelling experience. I’ve enjoyed the challenges and and am looking forward to developing great new applications.”

Who are we scouting for?
A solid background in Rails, demonstrated knowledge of MySQL or another RDBMS; nice-to-have’s: A RoR site you can show us, AJAX/Javascript experience, comfortable with Unix/Linux.
Using your talent you will be helping to design the service and cutting/testing code at speed. You’ll be observing and monitoring how users interact with your work in production and iteratively improving where appropriate.
What’s it like to work here?
Here at Cominded we do have a ‘world view’ which we strive to live through the business. This doesn’t mean corporate mission or values statements, just a genuine desire to make the world a better place. With this in mind we only develop services which we feel are likely to be significantly social beneficial. We’re not interested in ‘me too’ services. We regard ourselves as our own ‘lab’, so expect an ethos of co-learning and co-creation.
In that spirit, we have regular office ‘lunch and learns’ where we share knowledge across the team. We’re enthusiastic about “pragmatic best practices” such as test-driven and iterative development, so if you are new to those we can help you.
We support the London Rails community (Rails Pays, Pizza On Rails) and expect to contribute back to the community by releasing some of our work. We love the freedom and power that Web 2.0 offers individuals when done right. If you like delivering on that for people then you’ll love working here.
Would I fit in?
You must have enthusiasm, drive, and be able to work within a small cooperative team (but don’t let that scare you – most of us worked for corporates once).
We like to have fun when we work and we’re not fans of artificial deadlines. But we do like to get the job done so we can learn some more, deliver more benefit to service users and move on to the next thing.

More good news – If you want to dedicate 100% of your time to cutting code fine, but if you want to be part of where the business is headed, and get involved in the development of new service ideas you can definitely do that here too.
